However, the new sensor in Lytro camera pick up all light field from the scene, which means it pick up the light direction, intensity and colour.
Now, with this, vast amount of data, you can change the picture to your desire, also, you would never has problem auto-focus since it grabs all the light field, making the photo capturing faster. It would also allow you to capture a low light scene better, without having to use a flash.
