goodbye 2010

And so the year 2010 will come to an end. How has the year been to you? Good I hope. For me, it's a roller coaster of happiness and disappointments.

I could call this year, the worse yet for me, I'm still unemployed, which means, I am not only making myself look bad, but also my parents. I've had several interviews, you name it from oil and gas companies to simple local companies, and most of the time, the interview has nothing to do with oil and gas industry at all, alas I've still has no luck. But hey, I walk this life with one simple rule, "whatever happened, happens for a reasons", there's no way I'm giving up. I've got some plan coming up next year.

Although, that is not the case through out the year, I've been traveling around Malaysia, and I'm lucky to been able to travel with my family, eaten at great places, taste new foods, it's really been a blast. So this year has not been all that bad, in fact, I travel a lot this year, compare to any other year.

I've been to Penang, and Kuantan the most, but I've taste a lot of great foods along the way. It's impossible to name all of it, I think I've posted a few places in the blog already. Just last week, I went to Penang, and have an opportunity to taste some of the local dish there, even Radix Fried Chicken, hehe. Next year my dad plans to go out of Malaysia, I think he forgot that I'm jobless.

But all and all, this year has been a soul searching one. I hope this year has been a blast to you guys, with a lot more coming in 2011. So have a blast new year's celebration, and hope your new year's resolution for 2011 comes true.

Facebook defacing

Hey there, here is a great trick on defacing your new Facebook profile. You need to activate the new profile in order to get this done. In the new profile, your tag photos are up on the wall, it look great if you have an amazing photos.

It was first done by a French artist, Alexandre Oudin. Now it seems more and more people are getting into it.

Here is my new profile after 'defacing', this is a simple picture, as I have only trying this stuffs, I probably try something else next time.

Paramore break up!

The web is abuzz from the news that Paramore loses 2 of it's founder, brother Josh Farro and Zac Farro leave the group.

The band has posted an official statement on their website stating that the breakup has been going on for months. Zac and Josh decision has come to no surprise as the other members feels that they are happy doing something else, and wish them all the best luck.

The band three remaining members including Hayley have no plan on leaving the band, with statement to the fan "We really hope that you can be encouraged by the fact that the three of us who are still here are ready to take on another chapter of our journey together."

Although with the break up, the band are still going strong, and with plan of new album coming out on 2011 and a South America tour, I'm sure Paramore is here to stay.

So, I don't think I wrote about local movie as much as international screening, but here's a look at KRU's Studios Hikayat Merong Mahawangsa. Looks good to me, suddenly prouder to be Malaysian.

Here are 2 news that may or may not be important.

First of all, the author of Bleach (no, not the detergent, the anime) , Tite Kubo has come out with a statement that the title will go on for another 10 years. This is a great news to all of the fan, since Naruto and One Piece might come to an end soon (hopefully not).


Tite Kubo says that the story has only reach half way through, and hope to continue for another 10 years.

There have been mix reactions to the announcement, with some saying that the comic has come to the peak of the story and continuing it will just make the anime lose its magic, while most of the fans agreed that the story has not yet fully develop, saying that it could go more and excited to keep reading it.

But whatever the fans think, it is clear that Bleach won't go out easy. Being known as one of the biggest name in anime, it is unclear what will happen when the series finally come to an end.

Secondly, is this awesome or maybe weird thing I heard at Dubai. Apparently, there's a Christmas tree that worth 11 Millions USD in the Emirates Palace Hotel! Yes 11 MILLIONS!

Why is it so expensive? It's is not the tallest tree, I'm sure, but it is decorated with diamonds, earrings, golds, necklace or all shiny ornaments that I'm sure most of us can't afford, sponsored of course by a local jeweleries store.

Seaventures Dive Resort

I never knew this place existed until today. Apparently there's a great diving place right here in Malaysia (my own backyard) where people from around the world has dubbed one of the best place to go diving.

Introducing Seaventures Dive Resort. Located on the north east of Sabah, just outside Malaysia's water, near to Semporna, Sabah.

The place was constructed from an old abandoned oil rig, yes, an oil rig. People from Europe, Japan and even the US has come here to experience the best part of the journey, the diving. Suzanne Harris, a Singaporean owner said that this is much better place to dive than the Great Barrier Rift.

It is said that the rig lies on the coral triangle, where apparently there are rich with marine life. This is due to the number of plankton (foods for most fishes) that are high in numbers here. So you can expect to see all kind of marine life here.

This place has everything, from wifi, so that you can still connected through Facebook or other social networks and chat with people about your adventure here, to a bbq, and even a live band.

Cancun's Climate Summit

If you haven't heard yet, there are currently climate talk on Cancun. Over 200 delegates from around the world gather to discuss about the current climate change.

Now, we know from many of this climate summit that action are far greater than words alone. So, even though the 200 delegates agreed to spend almost $100 billions towards 2020 to tackle the climate problems, and the act of preserving the forest, helping the poor to adapt and share clean techs, this is just words and promises, actions after the promises is what important.

Some of the important evidence of the dangerous rising in global temperature is the heat wave in Russia and China, also the flooding in Pakistan. Some scientist however, do not believe that this is directly the result of the rising global temperature. But most of the scientist do agree that the rising temperature are due to human effects.

The main talk of the summit have change since the last one. Now they are talking more about adapting to the new environment. Tackling the issue is still important, however seeing how "well" that was in the past few years, the idea of tackling global warming has been put on side.

More greater threat however are being recognize, such as the rising in sea level. This has come to attention in the past months, when several smaller island, has start losing their coast. This island, will in the near future, gone from the map, if no actions were made. The coastline cities and settlement has to be relocated, and the cost are astronomical. This is something that the delegates discuss during the summit to adapt to the new environment.

Scientist predict, the rise of sea level will be up to 1.4-2.0 meters in next years, and could be disastrous for the coastline settlements and island nations. Most of them will be wipe out, and they will be without nationality.

To date, the Earth is now 0.8 degrees celcius higher during the Industrial Revolution. Scientist predict this will keep rising until about 1.5 degrees in the next few years, and would bring irreversible effects. Although actions are being made, it is clear that this actions will take time, too long to take effects, and most likely wouldn't do any significant changes in the near future.

The significant of this summit is how to adapt and help the coastline and island nations in the near future, should the rising of sea level changes the modern map. This is however, like I've said is very costly, the idea of resettlement is just too big to consider. Another problem is when the island nation is wipe out, who would take this people that is without nationality? Who would risk, diseases, economic and space to help this people?

Climate change is just gonna get worse in the future. To date, we are about 6.8 billions people, in 2050, we will have to deal with 9 billions human living on this tiny blue planet. How do we cope?

Thor's first trailer

Here's the look on the first trailer of the movie Thor. Thor is a superhero character for those that wondering. He was created by the same man that created Iron Man, Spiderman and The Fantastic Four.

With many more superheroes coming out next year (The Green Lanter, Captain America), you could say, it would be a year for the superhero. All of this superhero are going to meet and form The Avengers, read about it on my previous post.

SS Huckleberry

So for those that waiting for a zombie apocalypse and wanted a safe house, here's one, it won the 2010 Zombie Safe House Competition. Introducing the SS Huckleberry, click picture for bigger view.

How the safe house come to be, is because of one simple rule, zombie can't swim, we've seen this many times in countless movie, that zombie doesn't have the necessary function to swim. So what better place to go on living than on a river.

The best part of this safe house is the fuel it use. Zombie diesel. Yes, that's right, using zombie to fuel your boat, what a great idea! We have countless zombie trying to eat your brain, it's basically a free source of energy, plus we also cleaning the world.

Living on a river is also a great idea, you constantly moving, and have major cities all along the river, providing plenty of resource, plus a great view out of your bed room, living the dream baby!

Now if only somebody just release the virus on the water treatment facility, we can all have a zombie apocalypse.

Tomb Raider getting a reboot

Here's an interesting story about the biggest woman in gaming franchise. Tomb Raider is getting a reboot, the storyline, the company developing it, even the most popular player in the game itself, Lara Croft. The new artwork shown below, shows a much 'macho' Lara Croft, although still probably curvaceous and tight wearing lady she is known now.

Square-Enix are in charge of the new sequel to the game, simply title, Tomb Raider. It will be a reboot of younger Lara Croft, in time where she is still learning about herself and how she became in icon today. The new installment will include a ship wreck in which our heroine was on board, and has to survive anyway she can.

There are still information coming in, but people can expect much more when the official news come out later this week.

Tomb Raider is game that has been here for a long time, and although the character get reboot over and over, one thing remain, Lara Croft will not be replace. She is an icon in her own domain, and even if Lara Croft gets a reboot, reborn or remake, fans still want to see the new her, because she is an icon of the gaming world.

Amber Heard is now a lesbian

So, remember Amber Heard? No? Well, here's a post I did about a year ago. Apparently she is now a lesbian, yes she is. She made an announcement at a GLAAD event, about her orientation and introduce her girlfriend. GLAAD is the Gay and Lesbian Alliance Against Defamation.

But it's all good, cause' have you seen her? I don't normally do this (well not true), but she's hot, this type of hotness I believe, can make any gay man turn straight or a straight woman turn lesbian. Check out the pictures below.

The Naga Viper, has claim the top spot as the new hottest pepper by defeating the previous title holder, the Bhut Jolokia by 300,000 points according to Scoville scale. Scoville scale measure the heat release by chemical from a pepper, can you guess how much the Naga Viper points is? A whopping 1,359,000 on the scale, ouch!

If you're thinking of picking the pepper for free, you might have to rethink about it. The pepper was not grown naturally on the wild, but a cross-over from three of the hottest pepper to date, by one man, Gerald Fowler. You can still choose to grow them.

R.I.P Leslie Nielsen

Leslie Nielsen, a beloved actor has passed away at the age of 84. Best known for his role in Scary Movie 4. He didn't start as a comedian, but as a drama actor, but known nowadays around the world as one of the best comedian ever lived.

He died due to complication of pneumonia he had suffered. He will be missed.

Tangled a Rapunzel Story review

Since Harry Potter’s new movie came out last week, the internet is buzzing with reviews about the new movie, but I’m not going to write about that. Here’s a review of another movie, not as popular but surprisingly made Harry Potter a run for its money.

Tangled a Rapunzel Story, is by it’s name a Rapunzel story. You know who is Rapunzel right? No need for history lesson here. However, this fairy tale has a twist. Not a typical prince meet tower with a long hair girl in it.

In this movie, Rapunzel was born a princess and a magical one too. She was born with a magical hair, which has the gift to heal anything, even life, how this come to be? Well it has to do with a magical flower. In order for the hair to work, you'll need to sing a very special song. A wicked old lady, first found out about the magical power of the princess, decide to stole her, to use her power for her own personal greed, to stay young forever.

For years she had kept it a secret from Rapunzel, but Rapunzel is a wild and imaginative girl, that has been dreaming of stepping outside the tower to view the world, especially the “flying light” on the sky, no not the star, it’s actually lanterns made by Rapunzel’s parents, the king and queen, hoping that Rapunzel sees it and come home.

Then fate intertwine when a young man (not a hero in this story) called Flynn Rider, running from the law came to the tower, and discovered Rapunzel. Sensing this is fate’s way telling her to go outside the tower; she finally steps out on a journey to fulfilling her dream. I would not like to spoil it for everybody, you have to watch it to follow the adventures, and see what happen in the end.

The story is a classic tale with a twist from Disney. It was a surprise when the opening week in US gross about USD49 millions, just short of Harry Potter’s weekend opening (USD51 millions). Rapunzel is voice by Mandy Moore, so you can expect the singing is real, while Flynn Rider is voice by Zachary Levi.

But, knowing best from all previous Disney classic tales, you know how the story goes. First you met the hero/heroine, some adventures, sad twist, and then a happy ending. However, the best part of all Disney’s classic tale is the adventures. In this movie it will be filled with many laugh and crazy things that you wouldn’t imagine. The best part of the movie is a genius use of animal as the catalyst for laughter, yes animal!

There will be adventure, where you hold your breath, singing and dancing to the song, humming even after the movie ended, romance where the kid fell icky and close their eyes, hehehe. All and all this is very great movie to get your kid to watch other than Harry Potter. You won’t regret having another view of fairy tale; told from modern point of view.

This is a solid 4/5 stars.

new problem to global warming

Here's a shocking news of global proportion. I know most of you doesn't care that much about global warming, but I'm sure most of you care about the planet. Here's one news that could be a problem very soon to the Earth.

Somewhere in Siberia, Russia, there's a problem from 10,000 years ago that seeping up through kilometers of tundra and ice. A gas, much more lethal than carbon dioxide are bubbling up on the Siberia. Methane gas, 23 times more lethal than carbon dioxide are being seen seeping through their 10,000 years old prison. There are also an estimated 1.5 trillions tons of carbon gas under the ice, which is almost equal to all the rain forest in the world today.

The evidences of global warming are clear, glacier falling back, erratic weather, dying coral reef, increasing temperature around the world, but this might be the one that could change it all for the worse. The release of all this methane gas, could be the hump on global warming where we can't go back anymore.

Since this discovery is so new, there are many variables and calculations that must be made before conclusion of how worse this has become. Scientist are still debating whether the problem can still be fix or slow down, or are we too late.

I'm hoping we live long enough to see that it never happen.

Pluto to be a planet again?

Here's a story to ponder. Did you know that last year, Pluto was no longer a planet in our solar system? I'm sure most of you heard about this, but did you know that one, they are considering in revoking that claim. It seems that scientist can't make up their mind on this.

So here's a brief history of why they decided to demote Pluto as a planet. Scientist recently discover Iris, an icy but bigger body of ice further than Pluto. This (although painful to admit) made the scientist to a conclusion that there maybe more icy "planet" outside of Pluto, and thus the decision to make Pluto a dwarf planet, not a full planet.

To understand what a planet is, scientist has come with a description, A body that circles the sun without being some other object's satellite, is large enough to be rounded by its own gravity (but not so big that it begins to undergo nuclear fusion, like a star) and has "cleared its neighborhood" of most other orbiting bodies. That is a planet.

However, recently, when they recalculate the size of Iris (the planet further than Pluto) it is now said to be even more smaller than previously thought, almost the same size as Pluto. So now they reconsidering the fact. Another reason why they reconsidering this is because of what the word "planet" really represent.

Now they are saying that the term planet, as stated above cannot be use anymore, since it shows that no planet on our solar system is consider a planet if they follow the term strictly.

electric car downside

In today world, we can see many changes. One such changes are the decreasing fossil fuel that will envelop the world one day. In order for people to survive their addiction to fossil fuel, some car manufacturing company come with idea of hybrid car or electric car.

But, nevertheless, electric car never fully popularize, and people are still sceptical. Why?

For one, too expensive. To store the massive power the car need to run, it cost them USD10000 - USD15000 for a battery per piece, this make the overall electric car twice the price of a normal gas car. People figure everything into buying a car, and buying a electric car is just too expensive on the long run.

Limited range is also a problem. Different electric car has different mile age on how much can it go with a full recharge. However, the miles it can go are still shorter than that of a gas car. This prove to be a problem to those that travel a lot. Plus with limited recharging station, it would a problem when the car run out of juice.

Soooo...everybody know about Red Riding Hood right? Apparently there's a movie coming out on 2011, and the worse part is, the director is the same person that direct Twilight! Who on their right mind make this decision?!

If you guys see the trailer, you would see that the way it shoot is pretty much like Twilight, plus the movie make Red Riding Hood act like an emo teenager! "I should, I should not, I will, I will not" FOR GOD'S SAKE WOMAN MAKE UP YOUR MIND!!

You know what, this movie gonna rake millions because of 2 things, Amanda Seyfriend as the main cast, and Twilight fan. Yes you know who you are you insecure 16 years old brat.

Who doesn't remember or even heard of Gulliver's Travels? You haven't?! Well, you should probably read about it first before seeing the movie.

The movie, coming in 2011 (I think), is about well, Gulliver, who is in an adventure, where he stumble on a land where tiny people live, it's a classic tale, live with it!

Anyway, the movie stars Jack Black, who doesn't love Jack Black?! And there's Jason Segel (the guy that plays Marshall in How I Met Your Mother).

Can't wait to bring my sister to this one.

Another addition to your photographing pleasure. Olympus has release another camera with all the function of a DSLR but a size of a compact digital. Come with interchangeable lenses, it seems that this kind of camera has taken its foot on photography enthusiast.

Said to be the world's lightest interchangeable lenses camera, the camera era has sure come a long way to get here. No idea when this gonna come here, I'm gonna guess here, it will probably be here by early next year.

Assasssin's Creed Brotherhood

Assassin's Creed is one of the best game of 2010, if you not a gaming individual, you might get lost in translation here, but you can always Google. Coming back with its Downloadable Content is Assassin's Creed Brotherhood.

I never get the chance to play it yet, but it was given a 8/10 points from IGN. The single player was short, but the strength in this game is the multiplayer. As the name of the game sounds, you play to assassinate other player with stealth, at the same time avoid being kill too.

one-way trip to Mars

Colonization on Mars could happen faster, if the people doesn't come back, at least that's what 2 scientist suggest. The 2 scientist, Dirk Schulze-Makuch, a professor of Washington State University and Paul Davies, a physicist at Arizona State University, argue that human colonization of Mars are possible if we doesn't count on them returning back (well that just suck).

The fuel and essential sources, such as food and power could be cut to almost 80%, which mean, we could speed things up. However, the idea was not popular among scholars and scientist, most of them actually hated the idea of sending people without possibility of returning to Earth.

Although the idea was not widely accepted, they intend on doing it anyway, if they was an eccentric billionaire, with a lot of money to spend. Rumours of PayPal founder and Amazon.com Inc CEO have been investing on space exploration, could help the scientist.

They said, that the Earth is a volatile planet, it is on constant threat of forces beyond our power, black hole, solar blast..things that just unpredictable, so one way for the species to survive is by venturing into space.

If you ask me, everybody die at some point. But human being has always shown remarkable survival skills to claw their way up to the top of the food chain. But maybe there's something to it here.

Galas

It's not my norm to talk about politics in this blog, however, since we just witness another small election, let us ponder about it for a moment.

For those that hate or doesn't care about this, there was a small election in Galas, Kelantan. The winner is BN with 1000+ majority. Now, I'm not a big fan of politics, nor the government nor the opposition, but one has to take side right? and I am a firm believer of people power.

Voters nowadays are not old and still relies on one type of information that are being control by the government, now we have the internet. Although not everything from the internet can be trusted, but it's not refrain to the government needs.

There will be a lot of speculation to why BN won the election, and the biggest one would be "orang dah bosan dengan PAS" or "orang nak tengok perubahan". What's the similarity here? ORANG. Yes the voters there feels that they want a change, and they believe that BN can give it to them, nothing wrong there. The only thing that could be wrong is when the promises turn to lies, that's the price you, the voters, will pay when things don't go your way.

If the winning party could bring changes to them, why shouldn't we vote for them? Remember that politics are always dirty, if you don't believe, go try it yourself. You can't help the people unless you "help" others. So, don't go and regrets the decision that you made, I hope you have put the right people in power.

I don't want to congratulate the winning party just yet, because the easy part is over, now you have to put those promises you made into realizations. Excuses will only reflects badly on the party, you and your family.

Paranormal Activity 2 review

I've wrote about the new movie in by earlier post. Paranormal Activity 2 is a sequel (or prequel) depends on how you see the movie. If you haven't seen the first movie, you wouldn't understand a few parts and the last part of the movie. However, you don't have to see one, just google or search on wikipedia about the movie, you can read the plot there.

So, the simple summary of this movie, Kristi just movie in to her new house with husband, stepdaughter, Ali and her son, Hunter. At first there was nothing significant happen, but after looks like a burglary in the house, Kristi's husband, Dan, decide to put on several cameras to monitor the house. Little that there know, it was more than human that destroy their house that day. After several weird incidence, Ali and Kristi believe the house is haunted, Dan, however remain skeptical. This all change however when something happens to Kristi that even Dan can't deny it anymore. So Dan decide to "exorcise" the demon. The family life change forever from that moment. You have to watch the movie to know the rest of the story.

I'm gonna be frank about this one, unlike the first one, this one has a lot more people in it, which to me is really great, because we got to see more interactions and more acting. Plus, in this movie, we got to an idea about why there's a demon that haunting Katie(from the first movie) and Kristi even when they were young (it has to do with first born son).

There won't be any major spoiler here, don't worry, you can spoil yourself by reading about it on the internet.

However, unlike the first movie, there aren't a lot of haunting in this one. Most of the haunting only happened at the second half of the movie. There wasn't any REALLY scary moment, but there are some moment where you definitely jump from your seat, HEHEHEHE.

In this movie, the classic tactic of scaring people is apply, much like the first movie. The elements of darkness and silence before the big BANG is how you scare people. This elements work in the first movie, and the sequel.

There are rumours about alternate endings, I won't spoil the ending for you, so you guys have to watch it, and google it.

I gave this movie a 3/5 stars, because of it's somewhat working scariness, and originality, but still the same story from the first one. So watch it when it hits cinema near you!

Paranormal Activity 2 trailer

From the original writer of Paranormal Activity, here is the trailer for their upcoming sequel, Paranormal Activity 2. Well, it's kinda like a prequel to me. Why? Well, because the girl Katie, in the first movie, is I think younger here, which means, the event in the second movie was before the event in the first movie. Make sense?

From what I gathered in the internet, the movie still about Katie, the main character in the first movie, and how this one explain about the ghost that's been haunting her since her childhood, and lead to the first movie.

Anyway, watch the trailer, for more stronger effect, close all your light, and use your headphones, hehehehe.
